So many people hang out in the beaches of Rio de Janeiro every day just to enjoy the spectacular views such as this one. I was only able to enjoy it for a few days but I hope to return again and again.

The best time of the year to go to the beach in Southern California is not during the summer. It is in the fall, especially in the months of October and November. That is when the clouds start appearing over the SoCal skies. They are nowhere to be found in the summer but in the fall, it is suddenly the season of pretty sunsets.

The best way to get around Havana is via bicycle. You can admire the beautiful, multi-colored architecture along its cobblestone streets and then head off to drink a mojito…or two.

A handmade arch made from dried tree branches welcomes all to this fabulous beach way down in Sian Ka’an, México. This little spot is in a remote part of the country with no electricity, no paved roads and the occasional jaguar still roaming around. I actually prefer that over a crowded, tourist packed beach with thumping music blaring all day long. Next time I have to visit one of those crowded beaches, I am bringing a jaguar with me and then I’ll just set him loose to clear everyone out. Or maybe I’ll just go back to this spot and avoid the drama.

I had previously posted a similar image last year. The lady in the center was barking at me cause I started taking a photo before leaving a donation. Hey, art before commerce lady!

After the tourists leave for the day and the turtles swim away, all that is left in Akumal are a few boats in the water, a few lights in town and the spectacular colors of the sky.

In spite of what you may have heard, you should really attempt to visit Rio’s infamous favelas. I was looking for a nice lookout point and I met an annoying Argentinian tour guide on the street who claimed he knew the best spot in all of Rio. What he failed to mention was that we would have to walk all the way up the hill through a Favela after dark. Hey, anything for the sake of art. It was no big deal. I’ve been known to hang out in South-Central LA on a few occasions. After I got my shot, I even hung out with the locals & had a beer.

On my recent visit to Akumal in the Mayan Riviera, I would wake up before sunrise every day to try and get a nice shot. I was not having very much luck as most days it was either raining or very hazy. It wasn’t until my final day when all the elements finally came together to produce a spectacular sunrise. Patience is a photographer’s best friend.

Being that today is Mexican Independence Day, I know many of my friends will be celebrating with tequila, mariachis, and lots of good food. But when I think of México, this is what I picture. Lounging in the blue, Caribbean waters of Yalku-ito Bay in the Mayan Riviera. There is no place I would rather be. Viva México!
