In spite of what you may have heard, you should really attempt to visit Rio’s infamous favelas. I was looking for a nice lookout point and I met an annoying Argentinian tour guide on the street who claimed he knew the best spot in all of Rio. What he failed to mention was that we would have to walk all the way up the hill through a Favela after dark. Hey, anything for the sake of art. It was no big deal. I’ve been known to hang out in South-Central LA on a few occasions. After I got my shot, I even hung out with the locals & had a beer.
