A Palapa in Bacalar

Have you ever heard of Laguna Bacalar? Not many people have. As you drive south along the lone highway in the Mayan Riviera, you’ll come across this small community situated on a beautiful lagoon. It is the second largest fresh water lake in Mexico but gets very few crowds. The locals also call it the lagoon of the seven colors. I tried counting all the colors but they kept shifting between variations of turquoise and teal and aquamarine. The day I visited with some friends was supposed to be a short trip to look at some land. We enjoyed it so much that we ended up staying all day long, taking turns jumping off the palapa into the multi-colored lake.

Yes, this is one of those undiscovered locations in Mexico. Still lush and beautiful and has not been invaded by tourists…yet.
