You know what I have in common with such historical luminaries as Ernest Hemingway, Ché Guevara, Frank Sinatra, Winston Churchill and the Mob? We have all probably enjoyed a fine cigar and a mojito in Havana’s famed Hotel Nacional. There is quite a bit of history with this place. It was built atop an old military fort and there are still a couple of leftover cannons pointing out to sea. Nowadays that battery area is occupied by the hotel gardens where Cuban musicians stroll the grounds entertaining guests. As with everywhere else in Cuba, being here makes you feel like you are stepping back in time. If I stepped back in time, I doubt if I would want to be bumping shoulders with some of those guests, like the Mob or El Ché. But I would have no problem hanging out with Hemingway all day long. Well at least until one of us passed out drunk. It would probably be me.

Here is the same photo but in black & white. Doesn’t it kind of look like a medieval castle where an evil scientist is awaiting the thunder and lightning to put the finishing touches on his latest monstrous creation? Nah, it’s just a swanky hotel.
